Café Heuvel
About
Café Heuvel
Café Heuvel is the kind of traditional neighbourhood pub many visitors hope to discover in Amsterdam. Located where the Prinsengracht meets the Spiegelgracht, it combines a compact brown-café interior with an inviting terrace overlooking one of the city’s prettiest canal corners.
Inside, dark wood, old photographs and closely arranged tables create a wonderfully unpolished atmosphere. Regulars, local residents and gallery owners from the surrounding Spiegelkwartier gather at the bar, while visitors are welcomed without the café ever feeling designed for tourists.
The menu is deliberately simple. Come for draft beer, coffee, apple pie and classic Dutch bar snacks such as meatballs, smoked sausage and ossenworst. During the daytime Café Heuvel feels calm and relaxed, while late afternoons and weekend evenings can become considerably livelier.
