Cafe Lowietje
About
Cafe Lowietje
Café Lowietje is one of Amsterdam's most famous brown cafés and has been a beloved institution in the Jordaan since 1954. The authentic interior has remained remarkably unchanged, with stained-glass windows, chandeliers and photographs preserving the atmosphere of old Amsterdam. Throughout the decades, the café has been a gathering place for lovers of Dutch music and traditional Jordaan culture. Lowietje became nationally famous as the filming location for the legendary Dutch detective series Baantjer. The bar stools where detectives De Cock and Vledder sat are still in place, making the café a pilgrimage site for fans of the show. Live performances by Amsterdam singers, music from icons such as Johnny Jordaan, Tante Leen and Willy Alberti, and its warm atmosphere have made Café Lowietje one of the most authentic nightlife experiences in the city.
