Chicago Social Club

Chicago Social Club, affectionately known by locals as “the Soos”, is a lively bar and nightclub directly overlooking Leidseplein. Since opening in 2011, it has developed into a familiar part of Amsterdam nightlife, loved for its informal atmosphere, varied music programme and combination of late-night bar and intimate club.

The venue is spread across two floors and filled with stairs, balconies, narrow passageways and small corners where guests can escape the dance floor and catch up over a drink. The layout gives Chicago Social Club a playful, slightly chaotic character: energetic and crowded when the party is at its peak, but never as polished or formal as Amsterdam’s more exclusive nightclubs.

Music depends entirely on the event. Different nights move between house, disco, hip-hop, R&B, Afro, dancehall and techno, with both established DJs and emerging local talent behind the decks. This variety makes checking the programme essential. The crowd and atmosphere can feel completely different from one evening to the next.

The ground-floor bar opens earlier than the club and has its own terrace directly on Leidseplein, making it possible to begin with cocktails before heading to the dance floor later. Chicago Social Club is best enjoyed with friends and suits visitors looking for a colourful, unpretentious night rather than a highly exclusive VIP experience.

Good to know: The music style, dress code and minimum age may differ per event, so check the individual programme before buying tickets. The venue generally applies a minimum age of 21. Lockers require a €2 coin, so bring one with you.
