De Poezenboot is one of Amsterdam's most unusual and beloved attractions. Founded in 1966, it is the world's only floating cat sanctuary and has become famous among cat lovers from around the globe. Located on the Singel canal, the sanctuary provides care for abandoned and stray cats while helping many of them find new homes. What began as a small initiative eventually grew into an internationally known animal shelter. Over the years, the floating sanctuary has welcomed countless visitors and has become a symbol of compassion and animal welfare in Amsterdam. Entry is free, although donations are greatly appreciated and help provide food, medical care and shelter for the cats.
