Gertrude is one of Amsterdam's most beloved neighbourhood restaurants and wine bars and opened in March 2020 in Oud-West. The restaurant was founded by actor and DJ Géza Weisz together with restaurateur Tijn Verstappen, who previously worked together on Oeuf and Pazzi. Their vision was to create a warm and welcoming place inspired by classic French bistros and the relaxed atmosphere of Amsterdam neighbourhood cafés. The kitchen revolves around seasonal ingredients, sustainable fish and carefully sourced meat. Chef Amadou Dia and Billy Wattimena create dishes designed for sharing, although guests are equally free to compose their own dinner. A carefully curated wine list and classic French touches such as white tablecloths, candles and vintage details contribute to the cosy atmosphere. Located in the leafy Bosboom Toussaintstraat, Gertrude quickly became one of the standout restaurants in Oud-West.
