Melkweg

Melkweg is one of Amsterdam’s most famous music and nightlife institutions. Located inside a former milk factory just behind Leidseplein, this enormous multidisciplinary venue hosts concerts, exhibitions and films by day, before transforming into a nightclub filled with energetic crowds and music until the early morning.

Rather than following a single musical direction, Melkweg offers a constantly changing club programme across several distinctive halls. One night may feature raw techno or house, while another brings hip-hop, R&B, Afro, dancehall, Latin, jungle, drum & bass or an enormous queer party. The atmosphere, crowd and room can therefore feel completely different with every visit.

Among its best-known recurring nights is Cheeky Monday, one of Europe’s longest-running weekly drum-and-bass parties. Techno Tuesday has provided a free weekly platform for raw, no-frills techno for more than seventeen years, while Encore is a long-standing favourite for hip-hop, R&B, Afro and dancehall. Larger parties and festivals can take over several halls at once, creating multiple dance floors and space for thousands of visitors.

Melkweg is less about exclusivity and more about music, diversity and discovery. There are no fixed VIP tables or bottle-service culture during most club nights. People come here to dance, experience a specific event and enjoy one of Amsterdam’s most important cultural venues after dark.

Good to know: Melkweg is event-based and does not operate like a nightclub with the same programme every evening. Always check which club night is taking place and purchase the corresponding ticket. Most club events are 18+ and finish around 04:00 or 05:00, but age restrictions and times can vary.
