NEMO Science Museum

NEMO Science Museum makes science accessible through experiments you can touch, operate and test for yourself. The museum occupies Amsterdam’s distinctive copper-green building beside the Oosterdok, approximately fifteen minutes on foot from Central Station.

Each floor explores a different theme. Fenomena introduces everyday physics through giant soap bubbles, light, sound and static electricity. Technium examines inventions and technology, while Elementa travels from atoms and meteorites to planets and the origins of life. Visitors can also put on a laboratory coat and conduct supervised experiments.

The upper floor contains Humania, an interactive exhibition about the human body, behaviour and identity. Some subjects are intended for visitors aged twelve and above. Regular demonstrations and workshops add variety, with the spectacular chain reaction among NEMO’s best-known attractions.

Finish your visit on the green Rooftop Square. It offers excellent views across Amsterdam alongside installations exploring nature, weather and technology. The rooftop is freely accessible, so you can visit it without purchasing a museum ticket.

Visit on a weekday after 14:00, when NEMO is often quieter. Laboratory workshops and demonstrations may have limited capacity, so check the programme shortly after arriving. Even if you skip the museum, the freely accessible Rooftop Square is worth visiting for its city views.
