Pulitzer Amsterdam

Pulitzer Amsterdam is one of the most distinctive hotels in the city. Rather than occupying a single building, the hotel connects 25 restored canal houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, stretching between the Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht. Inside, winding corridors, unexpected staircases and original architectural details create the feeling of exploring a small historic neighbourhood.

The hotel began in 1970, when Peter Pulitzer—grandson of Pulitzer Prize founder Joseph Pulitzer—combined twelve canal houses to create a five-star hotel. It gradually expanded into the remarkable collection of buildings seen today.

Pulitzer offers more than 220 individually designed rooms and suites, each blending historic Amsterdam character with colourful contemporary design. No two rooms are completely alike. The exceptional Collector’s Suites are inspired by imaginary former residents, including an art collector, a musician, a book lover and an antiques enthusiast.

At the centre of the hotel lies the peaceful Pulitzer Garden, a beautifully landscaped courtyard hidden behind the canal houses. Restaurant Jansz. serves carefully prepared dishes inspired by modern Dutch cuisine, while Pulitzer’s Bar is one of Amsterdam’s most atmospheric places for cocktails. Its fireplace, comfortable armchairs, canal views and elegant Art Deco-style bar give it the feeling of a timeless private club.

Guests can also explore Amsterdam aboard the hotel’s classic saloon boat Tourist, built in 1909, or the open teak tender Belle during the warmer months.
