About
Restaurant Metro
Café Restaurant Metro is a relaxed yet ambitious all-day destination on the Asterweg in Amsterdam-Noord. Located in the vast industrial building that also houses Nxt Museum, Metro combines a bakery, café, restaurant and wine bar beneath one roof.
The day begins at the bakery counter, where the display fills with croissants, pain au chocolat, raisin buns and tahini-miso cookies. Fresh sourdough also forms the basis for toasted sandwiches, while generously topped focaccia and brioche with shrimp croquettes offer something more substantial.
From midday, the kitchen adds a selection of warm and cold lunch dishes. Visitors can stop for a quick sandwich or choose the three- or four-course lunch menu for a longer afternoon at the table. Snacks remain available throughout the day, making the large bar an inviting place for an informal drink and a few plates.
Dinner begins at 18:00 and follows the seasons. The compact menu focuses on honest ingredients, familiar preparations and contemporary combinations without becoming overly complicated. Guests can order à la carte, build a meal entirely from snacks or choose three courses at a slightly reduced menu price. Vegetarian and vegan options are always available.
Wine is an important part of the experience. The carefully selected list brings natural wines together with more classical styles, with many bottles available by the glass. The atmosphere becomes livelier towards the evening, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays when Metro remains open until late.
Despite its enormous concrete surroundings, Metro feels warm and welcoming. A large central bar, open kitchen, colourful furniture and good acoustics make the space equally suitable for couples, solo diners and larger groups. During summer, breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks are also served on the terrace.
