Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam occupies one of the city’s most historically significant buildings. Hidden between two canals in the old centre, the property has served as a 15th-century convent, royal accommodation, the headquarters of the Dutch Admiralty and, from 1808 until 1988, Amsterdam’s City Hall.

Its history remains visible throughout the hotel in monumental staircases, stained-glass windows, stately halls and carefully preserved artworks. A colourful mural by celebrated Dutch artist Karel Appel can be found near the restaurants, while Princess Beatrix and Claus von Amsberg held their civil wedding ceremony here in 1966.

The Grand offers 178 individually decorated rooms and suites, blending French elegance with subtle Dutch design details. Its most distinctive accommodations are the Canal House Suites, situated inside former 17th-century homes of prominent Dutch admirals. Guests staying in selected suites also receive personalised butler service.

Restaurant Bridges specialises in refined fish and seafood dishes, served through five-, six- or seven-course chef’s menus. Oriole Garden Bistro offers relaxed Mediterranean cuisine, while the Garden Terrace is a peaceful summer escape hidden inside the hotel’s courtyard.
