The Greasy Spoon
About
The Greasy Spoon
The Greasy Spoon brings the unmistakable comfort of a traditional British café to Amsterdam. Located on the Kinkerstraat in Oud-West, this cheerful breakfast spot specialises in proper English, Irish and Scottish fry-ups without attempting to turn them into fashionable brunch dishes.
The menu revolves around generously filled breakfast plates. The Full English combines sausage, bacon, fried egg, tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, black pudding, hash brown and toast. The Irish version adds black and white pudding, a potato cake and soda bread, while the Scottish breakfast arrives with square sausage, haggis, black pudding, a tattie scone and fried bread.
A complete vegan fry-up is also available, featuring plant-based sausage, bacon and scrambled egg alongside beans, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, hash brown and toast.
Smaller options include beans on toast, crumpets, toasted English muffins and substantial breakfast butties filled with combinations such as sausage and egg, bacon and egg, black pudding or SPAM. Ingredients including Heinz baked beans, proper sausages and traditional sauces are sourced from the British Isles to preserve the authentic flavours.
The drinks menu continues the theme with builder’s tea, Irn-Bru, Vimto, Lucozade and dandelion and burdock. Visitors wanting something stronger can order a Guinness, cider, Bloody Mary or espresso martini.
The atmosphere is informal, playful and completely unpretentious. There are no reservations: tables are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
