About
Umeno
Umeno is one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam and has been serving authentic Japanese cuisine since 1978. Hidden in Amsterdam Zuid near the Olympic Stadium, the intimate family-run restaurant has built a loyal following thanks to its uncompromising dedication to traditional Japanese cooking. Since 2008, chef Atsuhito Hosono has led the kitchen, focusing on purity, seasonal ingredients and carefully crafted omakase menus. Unlike many modern sushi restaurants, Umeno avoids Western influences and emphasizes simplicity and respect for the ingredients. The traditional wooden interior and warm hospitality create an atmosphere that feels remarkably close to dining in Japan. More than four decades after opening, Umeno remains one of Amsterdam's finest destinations for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine.
